Avis Armstrong

Through cheerleading in middle and high school, I discovered my passion for weightlifting (even though it was lifting people at the time) and a team/community mentality. After graduation, I constantly looked for something to fill that void. I tried joining globo gyms, online fitness groups doing video series at home, even diet pills after my weight quickly got out of control (I was 201 lbs at my heaviest). I would always get bored easily and continued to look for something more. Finally, in the fall of 2011 a friend invited me to join her for a workout at a local CrossFit gym in Panama City Beach, FL. I walked into that warehouse wearing a baggy t-shirt and rolled up sweat pants, scared out of my mind not knowing what to expect. I’d never even heard of CrossFit, but I never looked back.

Soon after, I moved to Orlando and in 2014 I obtained my CrossFit training certification to help others find and love this magical thing I got to do for an hour every day. I began teaching classes at CrossFit High Octane almost immediately. I was then, and remain obsessed with the culture and community of CrossFit.

After deciding to put my roots down in Texas with my husband in early 2015, I quickly chose S&S CrossFit as my new home away from home. After doing my research, I knew that S&S was the best gym in town and I was not disappointed!! Even though I felt fit already, I wasn’t where I wanted to be aesthetically. I wanted to look as strong as I felt. Through diet challenges and consistent body fat tracking, I was able to lose 30 lbs and keep it off.

I’m constantly getting better, faster, and stronger, and I absolutely love helping others do the same!! You’re stronger than you think!
